Environment Consultant Fiji’s Principal, Dick Watling, has led or participated in a large number of multisectoral planning, strategy of evaluation projects, including Fiji’s National Environment Strategy.

Some typical projects are:

  • 2006 Maui Villas subdivision – rainfall water harvesting potential and requirements
  • 2006 Report on the Fiji Shark capture industry and by-catch issues

  • 2003 Review-discussion paper for the Secretariat of the Pacific Community on incidental mortality of seabirds as a result of fisheries operations
  • 2003 Environmental Site Assessment: Proposed new US Embassy Site, Suva
  • 2002 Environmental Review of proposed intensive (mechanised) sugar cane cultivation by the Tokatoka Sawaieke, Viseisei Village.
  • 2001 Studio City, Yaqara – baseline surveys and advice on environmental master planning.
  • 2000 Dick Watling, Environment Specialist – Hydrogeological study and catchment management plan for the Yaqara River; Government of Fiji.
  • 1999 Dick Watling, Environment Specialist – Suva and Nausori Water Supply and Sewage Treatment Masterplan and Feasibility Study; ADB.

Well, I have to start by saying this nomination is a surprise, but certainly a pleasant surprise, and I accept it with gratitude, and with humility. I add with humility, because I know well that my professional life here in Fiji, has been dedicated to my wider environmental consultancy rather than to conservation, which is where I always thought it would be.
